Is there an upper limit to a pensioners saving before she can apply for benefits?

Is there a limit to what pensioners can have in savings before they can apply for any other benefits?

My mother is 85 and has a little cash in the Bank but we're not sure if she will be able to claim for any benefits.

What's the limit she's allowed to have in the Bank?|||Its 16 thousand in the UK.|||Tell your mother to get in touch with her local age concern or citizens advice bereau who will help her with any claim she may have. There are several types of benefits she may be able to claim and one of them is not means tested.Pension credit is mainly based on her income rather than her savings.I gather she is a widow?.If she has less than 拢135 per week coming in then she can get pension credit which in turn will mean help with council tax.The first 拢10k of savings is ignored but every 拢!k over that amount 拢2 a week is deducted from what benefit she is entitled to.So if she has 拢15k they would deduct 拢10 per wk from the claim. It is quite complicated but to do an exercise go to www.entitledto.co.uk and put all the details in they ask for(it is anonymous you dont put your name in) be really honest and that will show you if she can claim and what for.|||she is allowed 拢16000.00 in savings .|||Try here: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/index.htm
