How do you push your body past the limit it gives you?

This is an expansion on my other question. I was wondering, how do you push your body past the limit it gives you to prevent damage to itself? I know one way is an adrenaline rush. It lets you break your body's limit, regardless if your muscles damage itself. Are there any other ways? This would be useful in many cases; for example, running. If you are in a race, you can use a way to temporarily remove the limits on your legs, even if you are going to damage them later.|||Having a very strong mind.

I'm not sure if this is possible, but if someone had complete control over their mind and feelings they could could completely try and ignore all pain and keep pushing until the legs themselves give up on their own, where the muscles start blowing up, tissue starts bleeding, etc.

Saw this in the Animatrix...just wanted to share..
